I have always loved this picture of my handsome Dad, Dean Flake (far left) and his brothers, Jake, Jed and Steve. It was taken sometime in the 60's on the Bar X Ranch in Pleasant Valley, one of the most beautiful spots in Arizona.
I submitted it to The Sartorialist, a fashion blog where it was featured today. I'm sure these real cowboys never thought they would be admired for their style. They probably all had manure on their boots.

Love this pic and loved reading all the comments from people to my dad, Dean.
They are wonderful. I love me real cowboys (ranchers). None of those sissy guys who try too hard. You gotta have manure on your boots. It's a must. Your family is rugged and handsome and cute as the dickens.
What Jo said? I agree! Especially about the manure. On the farm in Idaho we used to call it nuck. :)
And I have no idea why.
What a handsome lot they are. Yep, real cowboys wear a uniform all their own, manure included.
cool that it's featured on the Sartorialist. You are so legit.
Great picture. It definitely feels tough but classy.
And, um, has anyone ever told you that you look like your Dad?
I got told that so much when I was young that I had a complex. Now I am more often told that I look like my Mom. I hold either comment to be a great honor.
What a handsome posse!
I don't know what's going on with blogger, but it isn't letting me know when you post - most annoying!
I'm going to go with "Heaven on a stick," as written by Sandy Leonard Snaps.
I knew there was another reason I liked you--we both have cowboy dads. The real kind. With manure and all. Love the photo.
What a cool bunch of cowpokes. I can see the family resemblance between you and your dad!
=)
They probably wouldn't lie to hear they were adorable huh? Love me some cowboys!
A handsome bunch, for sure! And manure on the boots? You know... it's a look. But the look must be accompanied by a rugged strong jaw, and kind eyes (see picture).
That really is a cool picture!! These guys look tough and studly!
Woah! The Sartorilaist?! You should start a fashion blog or something now!
I've loved this photo since I first saw it in Dixie's house.
Love those pearl snap shirts with the v-yokes and long sleeves. Bet every one of 'em had a farmer tan, too!
