Mission Not Impossible

Did you notice that last Wednesday
was the longest day of the year?
We did.

That was the day we were up before the chickens, scrambling with two big suitcases, trying to get a handsome young man in a new suit
to the airport to catch a 6 a.m. flight.
"The Joey" is going on a mission!

You may remember this kid
He's been a willing, or semiwilling participant in many a Larainy Day shenanigan.  Now, he has taken a leave of absence; from college, friends, family life, movies, girls, ipod, facebook, Mac, novels, and sleeping in for the next two years.

If you see a tall handsome missionary in a white shirt and tie with a name tag, stop and say hello.
It might not be "The Joey",
but it will be some mother's boy,
who is probably missing him a lot.

What a great-looking missionary. And his mama ain't bad, either!

I love that first pic. He is a riot. I have a feeling he is going to relate very well to everyone he meets!

Did you tell us where Joey is going and I just missed it? You are so beautiful in that last picture. Is this your last son to go on a mission? I am not sure I could do that--let my child go for two years. You have great faith.

He is going to the Ogden, Utah mission so he won't be far away. His mission also includes a little part of Wyoming and Idaho. He's very excited.

Maybe he'll run into Shelby when she goes up to school. She'll be in Logan, so it's part of his mission.

He makes a handsome missionary indeed. It doesn't really matter where they go - you miss them all the same. Whenever I run into missionaries when out to lunch, I always buy their lunch. Good karma for all the nice things people did for my boys.

I certainly have a new appreciation for the young men I see, from time to time, since reading yours and Jen's blogs. Two years - wow!

My heart is breaking for you here. I know how much you will miss his sweet face and his weirdo personality. He looks so very dashing in that suit.

Very handsome missionary indeed. The next two years are going to go by quickly, that is until the holidays and then it seems like it drags. Congrats.
