Crying Me a Moon River

When I was a girl, I used to lay with my eyes closed on our brown carpet in front of our big brown stereo cabinet with my ear to the brown netting over the speaker.  (We were fond of brown in those days... and tan, and beige.)  At the top of my healthy little lungs I would sing along with my first major crush,

 I need you baby
and if it's quite alright
I need you baby to warm the lonely nights
I love you baby,
trust in me when I say,
Oh pretty baby don't let me down I pray
Oh pretty baby
now that I found you stay
And let me love baby
let me love you.

I was probably taller than Andy Williams during the time I loved him, because I had grown inches overnight to achieve my 70" height during my 14th year.  I didn't care.  I knew we were meant for each other.

I loved Andy as passionately as I hated his breathy singing little French wife
Claudine Longet...

who left my dear Andy for a skier named Spider.  I don't remember how I came by so much information in a world devoid of the internet and People magazine, but I was fully informed of Claudine's evil ways and judged her like an Old Testament Prophet.

Andy crooned me through many a lonely angst filled teenage hour and I never missed his variety show.  It was here that  he let me down gently by introducing  me to a more appropriate crush, one my own age that I wouldn't have to convert to Mormonism so I could marry him in the Temple...

Goodnight Andy Williams,
your voice was too good to be true.

Let's not forget that brief period in the late 70's to earlier 80's when you were infatuated with that "Sung Yung Moon River" fellow.

Yep, he was one smooth cat, wan't he? And Claudine was a she-devil.

What about "Rain Drops Keep Falling on My Head"? That one was my favorite. There won't be another like him, that's for sure.

Goodness, you and I must be the same age as I loved Andy Williams before Donny came along and had to abandon any hope for Andy (stupid Claudine married him) but moved on and had eyes for Donny only.

Andy Williams will be missed!

Yup! I wasn't shocked when I heard it but I was surprised at his age of 84. I saw him in Branson, MO in 1995 and he had so much make-up on he looked terrible. He looked 84 then.

Your tribute is just too good to be true too.
Farewell, crooner.

Andy Williams is Christmas to me. His voice IS the holidays.

And Claudine Longet? Convicted of misdemeanor negligent homicide? yikes.

Laraine ... that was my favorite Andy Williams song too. We had that long console stereo with storage on each end for the albums. Great pick for a favorite Andy song!

That man could sing!
Back in the days when The Great Dane and I were dating, the whole world was listening to the Rolling Stones and getting high, but TGD and I were dancing to Moon River - it was our song. Still is.

Well said. Andy was a class act. Donny, well. . .cute as a button. I had a crush on him, too. :)

Hi! I'm here from Kathy at Oregon Gifts. I, too, loved Andy Williams...still do, of course. I never did get the whole dreamy Donny thing. I guess I always had crushes on older men!

When I heard the news (on NPR) about Andy Williams' death, I got all misty and choked up; he helped us all through so much ANGST, right? I thought his TV show was great, too. He introduced me to Antonio Carlos Jobim, for which I'll always be grateful (think "Girl from Ipanema...")

Goodbye Andy, what a legacy he left.

I am reminded of the time I had a crush on some actor or singer (ironically I can't remember who) but such was my hatred for his then girlfriend that I wrote him a letter telling him to break up with her or I'd track her down and run her over.

I was 11 and I didn't have a car. Thank GOD my mother found it, could you imagine?! I was a very strange child.....
