The Days of Whine and Runny Noses

Okay, okay.  Enough making fun of everyone else.
Time for a awkward Larainy family photo.

Back in the pioneer days of 35 millimeter film, cheap frugal families had no choice but to get their photos taken for free as a promotional gimmick at the credit union.  Yes... I said the credit union.

So get out your banjo and sing along with me...

The Ballad of the Bad Family Photo
(Sung to the tune of the Beverly Hillbillies)

Come listen to a story about a girl named Larainy
A frazzled Mom, occasionally insaney
Dragged her unhappy family to a photo shoot
Should have known that nothin' free is cute.

Family photos that is... at the credit union

Well the first thing you know there's a fight in the car
Everybody's mad and it's too dang far
The denim themed clothes didn't quite work out
I look like a plumber or an old cub scout

Frazzled that is
Mother of five...no kitchen help

I'm willing to bet that someone in the country western music world would buy the rights to that song. The Teaser looks like trouble. Bless your heart.

Ours were taken at City Market....as cheap as they are, the innocence they captured is priceless.

You are one courageous Mum!
I have a similar photos, taken in a grocery store in Northern Alberta (really, we were lucky to have a grocery store, and it filled many roles, including photo studio). I think I had the same hair style - it was 1987.

wow, that has got to be the greatest strangest family pic yet!:) Who are those weird people? I should submit our family photo when I was 8...I wore a clown jumper with a bow tie, it was adorable.
Today I wanted to get my tubes tied...but only for the morning. In the afternoon I was loving my kids again. Teething babies are NO fun. Not even a little bit.

I forget where we used to go as kids - I think it was some dairy that sponsored a photographer. Too long ago to remember. But yeah - the themed look...sometimes the idea looks better in your head. Your picture is actually cute compared to some of the things I've done.

I really loved your picture! I think the denim was a great idea too. It is so fun to see old family pictures. This one should be a treasure, (I'm sure it is)

Thanks for posting it.

You don't look like a plumber OR a cub scout! We're all about the free photo ops, too. :)

To use a FB term: LMAO!!!! You don't look like a cub scout. Thanks for the laugh, Lorainy.

It was easy to sing along to that song, btw.

LOL How many different ways can I say I love your humor? Every time I visit you brighten my day. Thanks for a terrific morning jump start. The picture is wonderful, btw, and the captions are a hoot.

I am humilated. (hiding face in shame) This may be why I became a photogpher, so as to relieve the future suffering of any child in the kmart portrait studio.

I've said it a million times, but your family reminds me so much of mine! We totally did the denim thing for family pictures once. I even had a denim hat... good laws. (At the time I also had a really bad habit of licking all around my lips, so the chapped area surrounding made it look like I had double sized lips.)

One thing I was always sad not to have though, was one of those pictures of me where there's another picture in a bubble? The bubble one usually had you with a serious face.
