A Craving For Saving

There are some TV shows that flat out change your life;

The Beverly Hillbillies (Because Jethro showed me what to look for in a man)

Underdog  (Because just knowing that dogs can fly made my childhood feel a lot more secure)

Flipper (Because I came within a whisker of not being able to tell the difference between dolphins and sharks

The Partridge Family (Because I learned the difference between boys like David Cassidy (Flipper) and Danny Bonaduce (Shark)

Dallas (Because every red blooded American needs to understand big oil)

Jeopardy (Because shouting out answers phrased in the form of a question at the TV while Alex Trebek smiles encouragingly is like drinking a frosty rootbeer float on a hot day while floating down the Salt River on a big rubber tube.

I stumbled on another life changing TV show last week that looked something like this...

Watching Hoarders kept me awake all night, but with the morning light came purpose.

Me:  Quick, take out this garbage.

Joey:  Why?  It's only half full.

Me:  Get it out, get it out of here now!  Don't cling to your past son, you've got to let it go.

Joey:  I'm just saying...  Hey, give me back my yogurt.

Me:   Ha!  See, now you're saving yogurt cartons!  Next you're going to be winding up used dental floss around them, stuffing them with stale pop tart shards and storing next to your empty toilet paper rolls filled with hair from your hair brush.

Joey:  I only took one bite of that yogurt.  I wasn't finished.

Me:  Oh my goodness, the Goodwill truck is here.  Go get your sister.

Joey:   Why?

Me:  (Flipping quarter)  Call it in the air kids, one of you has to go.

Hoarders gave me that same sensation. I looked around my house and suddenly every knick-knack, old photo, and sentimental gift had me feeling like I had a mental disorder. I applaud you for taking the measures needed to "get your life back"- I didn't have the strength and mine is still cluttered with hoarder-like grossness.

Oh my gosh, I watched hoarders for 4 hours the other night. It left me with a desire to completely clean my house -- including the furniture out. I didn't want anything on the floor. I was horrified and worried that someday, somewhere, someone will find a cat skull hiding under a pile of rubble at my house.

My friend woke up at 4 am and started cleaning out a closet after she watched that show. I, for my mental health, can't subject myself to it...

You're a nut. And I love it.

I've heard about that hoarders show from my kids. I think I need to check it out and gawk (just for one, indulgent moment, of course!).

=)

You are hilarious...I haven't watched Horders yet but I have heard the same thing from so many people who have....it makes you want to get rid of everything!!

Those crazy shows have a lasting impact, don't they? I think I'd rather wish for something I got rid of than search for it through piles of newspaper and egg cartons though. ;)

I like to watch Hoarders too. Gives me the desire to put a trash can at the end of the counter and rake everything into it. Same feeling as a visit to mom's house without having to drive 600 miles.

Who didn't love David Cassidy????

I get itchy just watching the commercials for hoarders and have the uncontrollable sensation to purge, I can't imagine what I would do if I sat through an entire episode.

I should have known I had problem when I had a crush on Danny. lol I told my daughter that and she looks at me like I'm insane. Of course she is right.

I thought Danny Bonaduce was obnoxious then and he's just gross now. I loved David Cassidy then but he looks a little stretched now. And Jethro? He was a BoyMan, but who didn't love the Beverly Hillbillies? (Black Gold...Texas Tea...) I've never watched Hoarders, but Clean House comes close enough. Ewwwww... I can feel the roaches and vermin from here.

thanks for the chuckle!

What is sad is that I went to a yard/estate sale and that is what the house looked like. The son had just put mom in a resident home and she'd left all of that behind. It was my awakening.

This was HILARIOUS!!! I think I watched all those shows...and WHY I ask??? I've also watched HOARDERS....really scary! Last year we down-sized my mother-in-law and although she wasn't what you'd call a true hoarder, she had held on to way too many things for way too long. Every weekend when I got home I immediately began getting rid of things!!!!

Okay the last line has me laughing out loud, too funny!
