Arizona Autumn

Lately, my favorite blogs from all over the world have been clogged with  beautiful pictures of fall; trees bursting with deep color, piles of pumpkins and sweaters, sweaters, sweaters.

Well I'll have you know that we've got sweaters here in Mesa, Arizona too.  Just this morning I was in the middle of a whole group of sweaters at the gym and none of us smelled too pretty.  We would have been sweating even more if we had been wearing sweaters.

Even still, signs of fall are everywhere around me.

My toes, lacquered a deep shade of eggplant and snuggled in my favorite Teva sandals,  contrast brilliantly against the green winter rye grass

Nixon always changes his hairdo in the fall

A branch of the neighbors lemon tree droops invitingly over our back wall,
reminding me it's almost time to start my yearly lemon theft

I can always count on the decorative palm at the front door to sprout a hand in October

Campaign signs magically burgeon everywhere from flower beds
to vacant lots in garish shades of red white and blue

Sadly, the aloe vera plant, which provides cooling relief to sunburned flesh during the summer turns into a deadly skewer of death during the cooler months

Happy Fall!

I'd gladly send you some of our Pacific Northwest rain, rain and more rain.

You're trying to make me cry aren't you? Seeing all those beautiful orange leaves on everyone's blog just makes me want to spit! We should meet for ice skating and hot cocoa one day. Take that wig off that dog right now!

Impaled plush puppies are always my first sign of fall, too.

;)

PS. Seriously, though, I used to live in Southern California, so I know these "alternative" signs of fall well!

I'm not sure I'd vote FLAKE for Congress- we have enough of those. (Bet he never gets those jokes.)

Lemon theft is a serious crime, Larainy, and I don't think you should be advertising your criminal ways on the interwebs.

mmm, lemons. I want a neighbor with a lemon tree from which I can theft.

You know you want to come up and frolic in the autumn snow.

Yes, I heard yesterday on AZ news that roof rats are coming out now the citrus is ripening. Oh, yeh! I know, AZ is just so different in the fall than Idaho. I have to remind myself it's almost November. We'd have had snow in the hills by now in ID. Maybe I need to paint my toes eggplant. Yes, and add more twinkle lights...

And we actually enjoy our neighborhoods in the fall, too! An extra hand could be useful... let me know if it sprouts an extra ;)

I love it! Are you trying to make me really depressed at the prospect of moving back to the valley some day? I never knew why all those Holloween costumes for babies and children were so warm and plush until we moved out East.

I was born in Tucson. No fall leaves, but if you want amazing colors it is hard to beat an Arizona sunset!

I love the casual little hand in the pot. Doing nothing in particular. Just hanging out. I think my porch needs a random hand too. But the impaled puppy is just wrong Laraine. Funny, but wrong.

I have been busily knitting sweaters and now am waiting patiently - not really - for some cooler weather. Ah AZ. You have to love it.

If you want something that resembles fall in AZ you need to come north. Flagstaff has some color. We just get the cold temps here at the Canyon. I still miss color. There is snow on Humphries though. lol

We used to live in AZ, and I wouldn't have minded sharing my lemons with a neighbor like you, but one year someone took the entire batch - one night they were there, the next morning they were gone. *sigh* Enjoy your lovely AZ winter!
