Weddings Both Real and Royal

I had scones and bangers for brekkie, and cucumber sandwiches with crisps for lunch.  I'm worn out from chinwagging with fellow anglophiles about the grand wedding day of the brilliant pair, Wills and Kate.  Wasn't that dress spot on for a newly minted Royal Highness?   Sigh.

I'm taken back nearly 30 years ago to my own wedding day.  It was in 1981 that Diana Spencer and I both became engaged and wed the men of our dreams in July.

I wore polyester for the engagement photo

 Diana wore silk

Diana had a wedding gown made by her favorite designer, Elizabeth Emanuel

I wore a dress made by my favorite designer,  my Mum

Diana and her Prince drove to the reception in a four hp carriage.

We drove an old  Audi with broken air conditioning and a 300 hp engine that subtracted 95 carbon credits each time my handsome new husband hit the gas pedal.

This year we are celebrating 30 years of nuptial bliss (Which, incidentally was the phrase permanently emblazoned on our beautifully decorated Audi hood with menthol shaving cream during our reception).

My wish for this new royal couple is for a married life as full as ours; full of new babies, flat tires, crying at night and laughing in the morning, staying at home, traveling, fighting, making up... sorrows and joys all borne together.  Cheers!

Such a great post, Laraine!

And did your mom really make that dress? Pretty cool, if you ask me.

Love your wish for the newlyweds. I think they might just have a chance at it.

=)

Cheers to 30 more years! fantastic post! the "wedding" also made me reflect on my own, although not so long ago, it's nice to remember what brought us here in the first place.

ooooooh laraine, i love these photos of you two! so, so great.

you guys are WAY hotter than diana and the prince.

and the only reason i really cared about the royal wedding is because her name is kate. lame. but that dress was unreal...

Laraine that was awesome!!

I think you looked much happier in your polyester than Diana in her silk. That marraige was a bust from the start.
You and your hubby are darling and I love your wedding dress!!

I loved the Royal Wedding yesterday and hope those two will be happy - they seem to be off to a good start!

oh and i have a question

did you marry max?

You had a most handsome groom, better by far than Charles. And your groom had a prettier and more traditional bride. ( She wore the dress her mum made.) You even look happier...no wonder you lasted. The love and style was there from the get-go!

hooray.

Your dress looks more like the fashionable Kate Middleton's dress. You are SO ahead of the times.

cheers

Yes, you looked so tiny in your beautiful dress. I hope Kate and Wills can build on a solid foundation as you and your prince have done. Theirs has a better start than Diana and Charles had, I think. I think poor Diana was blindsided from the get go.

Great post. I'm glad your story (unlike poor Di's) continues, and does so with gusto. :)
