Auld Ange Send Me a Sign

I have been thinking today about my friend Marian.

She married the love of her life when she was 85.  His name was Russell and he wore wranglers and looked like a skinny old cowboy, even though he was a retired educator.  When Marian moved into his condo, she lost no time in redecorating, energetically moving furniture and hanging up her own pictures.  Russell sat placidly on the couch, watching his life get rearranged.  When I stopped helping for a minute, he pointed at a picture of Christ hanging on the wall, grinned and said, "I wonder if Jesus will make the cut."

Russell and Marian had a happy year and a half together until cancer took him.  Marian and I were friends for more than ten years.  She died almost two years ago and I still miss her. I gave her strict instructions to come back and visit me after she died, but so far her feisty soul hasn't shown up yet.

P.S.  Jesus did make the cut

I love people like those two. I wish she would come back and visit you. Be sure to let me know if she does. (I'm glad Christ made the cut. ;o)

She's visiting, I'm sure - you just don't realize it.
Old friends live on and on in our memories - lovely.

Just happened on your blog and spent the last 20 minutes giggling all alone while my baby sleeps and the school kids are still away...thanks for the fun!

Love this story, thanks. It helps to read good stuff after a tough day at work.

Because I have lost many close friends in the past several years, I loved reading this sentimental post. Sonja Buckner did visit me in a dream and it was so real I couldn't stop thinking about it for weeks. I miss her. I was cleaning out my art room today and came across a letter from Pat and Karen. I have been blessed with such good friends!

Too funny!

We can get such wisdom from older friends. Years ago I had a friend who told me "when you call, never ask HOW I am, because I will be tempted to tell you. Ask me WHAT I'm doing, because it helps me refocus."

I'm going to be smiling every time I think about Jesus making the cut!!!
